The role of the Assigned Certified is now well-established, but certain challenges still remain, as well as new challenges being created by this relatively new role, which continues to evolve since 2014.

Due to the amount of positive feedback of our previous events on this topic, we are delighted to revisit this role in a new light for 2019. This conference will explore the important practicalities of how the role has changed, as well as the common issues that continue to arise, how to handle them, and what needs to change still. We will also explore how to best manage professional relationships and avoid or mitigate conflict, and how to improve overall quality in construction, from design to specification, and the steps needed to build a “quality culture”.

He is a Chartered Surveyor, Chartered Building Engineer & Environmentalist and a member of the Architects Registration Board, the Construction Industry Registration Ireland (CIRI) Board and a former member of the Building Surveyors Registration Board. He served on the SI 105 BCAR Board for alternative compliance proposals for Health & Schools Projects.

He Immediate Past Chairman of the Institution of Civil Engineers (ICE) Republic of Ireland region and Past President of the Irish Building Control Institute (IBCI). He project-managed the development and delivery of the QQI National Building Control/Regulations competency certificated training programme.

A graduate of Queen’s University Belfast, Cormac has spent a large part of his career in South Africa working on a wide variety of projects including dams, bridges, roads, wastewater treatment works, gold, coal and diamond mines and a collapsed railway tunnel.

He returned to Ireland in 2001 to a position in Galway but relocated to Dun Laoghaire in 2005 and shortly thereafter joined RPS as a Construction Manager in the Dun Laoghaire office concentrating on landfill projects in their Waste & Energy Section. Currently, he is working on the Dublin Airport Fuel Farm redevelopment project and has current Assigned Certifier roles on pharmaceutical, social accommodation and commercial projects and has completed a small hospital building project in the same capacity.

He represented Engineers Ireland (with others) in the original BC(A)R consultation process and was their sole representative on the working group that originally developed the suite of Ancillary Certificates and the associated Practice Notes that have followed that exercise.
