Pat Ryan has been a member of An Garda Síochána for over 25 years and was appointed as the Head of the Garda National Cyber Crime Bureau in March 2019.

Prior to this appointment, Detective Superintendent Ryan spent 22 years attached to the Garda Information and Communications Technology Section based in Garda Headquarters.  He previously held the position of Superintendent in charge of IT Operations & Security responsible for the strategic and tactical planning, operation and deployment of all IT systems within An Garda Síochána. 

Over the years, Pat has represented An Garda Síochána at various EU meetings and working groups. These included Europol, the European Network for Law Enforcement Services (ENLETS), EU-Lisa on the Management Board (The EU Body responsible for the management of all large scale European IT Systems including the Schengen Information System (SIS)).  More recently, Pat represents An Garda Síochána at the Europol Cyber Crime Centre (EC3) and the European Union Cybercrime Task Force (EUCTF).
Pat holds a Degree in Information Technology Management and is currently completing a Masters in Computer Forensics and Cybercrime Investigations at UCD.
