Evelyn is Head of the Forecasting Division at Met Éireann, Ireland’s National Meteorological Service. Evelyn is a graduate of UCD with a primary degree in Physics and Maths and a Masters degree in Physics. She started as a forecaster on RTE TV in 1988 and has won many awards in her long career including the inaugural UCD Alumni Award in Science in 2014 in recognition of her work in promoting the public understanding of science and, most recently, the 2018 European Broadcast Meteorologist Award. Evelyn is appreciated for her ability to communicate intricate weather information clearly and with appropriate reference to the underlying science and is heavily involved in outreach activities in promoting the Scientific Method to the general public through the Irish Meteorological Society. She also works with SFI, An Taisce Green Schools and is a Judge in the Junior Science Fair in BT Young Scientists. Evelyn is a member of the National Emergency Co-Ordination Group which coordinates response to hazardous weather and led the briefings for Hurricane Ophelia and Storm Emma.
