Gerry is a founder member of the Energy, Environment & Climate Action Division of Engineer’s Ireland and a former Chair of the Division. he was a member of the Interdepartmental Committee on Energy Conservation and represented Ireland at EEC and International Energy Agency (IEA) meetings on energy conservation and renewable energy development. He was, for a period, Ireland’s representative on the IEA group on Energy Systems Modelling at Brookhaven National Laboratory in the US. This group developed the grandmother of the modelling tools now being used by MaREI in UCC. On returning to the ESB he worked on a number of high-profile contracts, investments and emissions projects. He is a member of the Irish Academy of Engineering’s working groups on Energy and Transport Infrastructure and has been a contributor the Academy’s published reports on these topics for over ten years. On the transport side he was responsible of the original Luas network configuration and was a Board Member of CIE and a Director of Iarnrod Eireann, for eleven years, where he chaired the Infrastructure and Safety Board Committees. He is currently a member of the RIAI working group on Irish Cities 2070.
