Irene Hayden joined GMIT in 2005 as a lecturer having previously graduated from QUB with a BSc Architecture and a BE Civil Engineering (First Class Honours) from NUI Galway and having previously worked in the construction industry in Ireland and the UK. She is a Chartered Engineer, CEng MIEI and a Chartered Architectural Technologist, MCIAT. She has since completed an online MSc in Renewable Energy and Energy Management (Distinction), UU, for which she received an Energy Institute Award. She has also completed a PG Dip in teaching, learning and assessment, AIT. Irene is a PhD candidate on the online ‘PhD in Higher Education: Research, Evaluation and Enhancement’ with Lancaster University whilst lecturing in GMIT in the Built Environment. She received the Taylor & Francis Award for Best Paper at the 7th International Congress on Architectural Technology 2018. Particular research interests include e-portfolios, online and blended learning and visual building regulation pedagogy for online learning.
